The Economic Empowerment Grant (EEG) is an entrepreneurial grant designed and administered by the JCPD to provide unemployed or low-income earning persons with disabilities with financial support for starting or expanding a business. Caregivers of persons with disabilities may apply on their behalf. The grant offers a maximum of Two Hundred Thousand Jamaican Dollars (JMD 200,000.00) for an individual application while it offers a maximum of four hundred thousand Jamaican dollars (JMD 400,000.00) for a group application.

Eligibility:

  1. Applicants must be registered with the JCPD.
  2. Applicants must be unemployed or earning no more than the national minimum wage as determined by the Government of Jamaica.
  3. Applicants must demonstrate an entrepreneurial need for this grant.
  4. A group of two or more individuals may be considered for an EEG.
  5. A Group application must ensure that persons with disabilities constitute a minimum of sixty (60%) percent ownership of the business.
  6. All applicants for an EEG must accept and be willing to facilitate monitoring of the business by the JCPD for six months upon receiving the EEG.
  7. Applicants must either own the business property or provide documented proof of permission to operate at the specified location for a minimum period of one (1) year. 

JCPD’s role and responsibility: 

  1. The JCPD’s Officer is to ensure that the following documents are current and are submitted upon application for this grant:
  2. A completed EEG application form for the client registered with the JCPD.
  3. A  Food handler's permit, where needed.
  4. Relevant licenses required for operating the business.
  5. Invoice no older than three (3) months
  6. A Business profile.
  7. Letter of permission from the property owner, signed and stamped by a Justice of the Peace (JP), where necessary.
  8. Rent receipt if the property for operating the business is rented.

 

Grant Amount:
$300,000

The Medical Grant refers to financial assistance offered by the JCPD to its registered clients to assist in offsetting expenses for medical procedures, surgeries, lab work, diagnostics, medications, and prescriptions. This grant offers a maximum amount of Three Hundred Thousand Jamaican Dollars (JMD $300,000) per applicant.

Eligibility:

  1. To access the Medical Grant, applicants must:
  2. Be registered with the JCPD.
  3. Provide proof of need by way of a letter/report from their doctor.
  4. Provide an invoice with detailed information about the item or service required.
  5. Provide proof of part payment in the form of a receipt or provide confirmation of a payment plan from the supplier.

JCPD’s roles and responsibility 

The JCPD’s Officer is to ensure that the following documents are current and are submitted upon application for this grant:

  1. Completed Grant Application Form
  2. Invoice no older than three (3) months
  3. Proof of payment in the form of a receipt.
  4. Evidence of need in the form of a letter or report from a clinician/therapist or the professional recommending the service/goods.
Grant Amount:
$300,000

The Emergency Grant refers to financial support provided by the JCPD to its clients who find themselves in difficult or life-threatening situations that require urgent financial attention to fully or partially alleviate such situations. Examples include fire or life-threatening medical emergencies. The maximum amount which can be awarded for this grant is Three Hundred Thousand Jamaican Dollars (JMD 300,000). The processing time for this grant must be within five working days of the JCPD verifying the request.

Eligibility:

To access the Emergency Grant, applicants must:

  1. Be registered with the JCPD.
  2. Present evidence of the urgent need.
  3. Must be faced with a life-threatening situation
Grant Amount:
$300,000

The Assistive Aid Grant refers to financial assistance that the JCPD offers to its clients to assist with the purchase of assistive and adaptive aids and accessories and therapy services to support them in leading a normal life. This grant provides funding up to Three Hundred Thousand Jamaican Dollars (JMD 300,000.00).

Eligibility:

  1. To access the Assistive Aid Grant, applicants must:
  2. Be registered with the JCPD.
  3. Provide an invoice no older than three (3) months, outlining the goods/services required.
  4. Provide the supporting evidence of the need in the form of a letter or report from a clinician/therapist/social worker or the professional recommending the service/goods.
  5. If the cost of the good/service exceeds the maximum value of the Grant, the applicant is responsible for and must be prepared to undertake any outstanding balances.
  6. Provide receipts or an approved payment plan from the supplier where the requested amount is greater than the grant value.
  7. Support for rehabilitation/therapy under the Assistive Aid Grant will be provided up to a maximum of 10 sessions.
Grant Amount:
$50,000

The Funeral Grant (FG) refers to financial support provided by the JCPD to offset funeral expenses for a deceased registered client with the JCPD. The grant offers a maximum of Fifty Thousand Jamaican Dollars (JMD $50,000.00) towards funeral expenses.

Eligibility:

  1. The deceased individual must have been registered with the JCPD.
  2. The applicant must complete a grant application
  3. The caregiver/next of kin must provide the following:
  4. Burial Order
  5. Invoice of funeral expenses,
  6. Receipt towards the funeral expenses.
  7. Applicants must be unemployed or earning no more than the national minimum wage as determined by the Government of Jamaica.

 JCPD’s role and responsibility:

The JCPD Officer must ensure that the following documents are current and are submitted upon application for this grant.: 

  1. The burial order or death certificate.
  2. Invoice for burial
  3. Completed Funeral Grant application form.
  4. Proof of payment towards the funeral expenses in the form of a receipt.
Grant Amount:
$50,000

The Education Grant refers to financial support offered by the JCPD to its clients for educational purposes. The maximum of the grant is Fifty Thousand Jamaican Dollars (JMD $50,000).

Eligibility:

  1. To access the Education Grant, applicants must ensure that:
  2. Be registered with the JCPD.
  3. The applicant must be enrolled in an Educational Institution.
  4. Applicants must be between the ages of 4 and 18 years old attending an early childhood institution, Primary School or High School.
  5. Applicants attending a new school are required to submit an acceptance letter from the Institution.
  6. Applicants over 18 years’ old pursuing post-secondary short courses or vocational training of a duration not exceeding eighteen (18) months may apply.
  7. Applicants must provide an invoice from the Educational Institution for applications for tuition support.
  8. Applicants requesting support for school supplies must provide an invoice from a Stationery Store.
  9. Caregiver/Parent should be unemployed or earning no more than the national minimum wage as determined by the Government of Jamaica.

JCPD’s roles and responsibilities 

The JCPD’s Officer is to ensure that the following documents are current and are submitted upon application for this grant. 

  1. Completed Grant Application Form
  2. Invoice no older than three (3) months
  3. Proof of payment in the form of a receipt where the request is greater than Fifty Thousand Jamaican Dollars (JMD $50,000.00.)
  4. Most recent School Report
  5. Acceptance letter for applicants attending a new educational institution.
